Types of Hearing Loss
There are two main types of hearing loss, conductive and sensorineural.
Conductive is when there is a blockage or abnormality that prevents the passage of sound from the out er ear to the inner ear. This often temporary and can be treated medically. We’ll work with the specialists at Ear Nose and Throat Consultants of East Tennesse to coordinate your treatment.
Sensorineural occurs when there is damage to the hair like hearing cells within the inner ear. This is the most common type and typiccally age related or noise induced Sensorineural loss is typically treated with hearing aids.
Mixed hearing loss is a combination of conductive and sensorineural loss.
